There are 5 different Fire Classes and extinguishers are labeled to meet these individual classes. Fire Extinguisher Classes Include:

  • Class B: Flammable Liquids like Grease, Oil, Paint and Solvents
  • Class C: Live Electrical Equipment like Electrical Panels, Motors and Wiring
  • Class D: Combustible Metals like Magnesium, Aluminum
  • Class K: Commercial Cooking Equipment like Cooking Oils, Animal Fats, Vegetable Oils

Fire Extinguishers are classified by the type of fires they are designed to extinguish. The different types of Fire Extinguishers are:

  • Type A: Pressurized Water for Class A Fires Only
  • Type ABC: Dry chemical extinguisher effective on all Class A, B and C Fires
  • Type BC: Carbon dioxide to be used on chemical or electrical fires
